What is the Pulse?
The Pulse is a music blog that trys to filter down the thousand or so tracks we hear each month into 20 songs that we think are Pulseworthy. You can read more in the
About Us section
Who is the Pulse?
Why does the Pulse exist?
Because we love music and love to help our friends find great music and great artists. It's certainly not for the money. If only it could be though, someday, someday...
What are the basics?
a) There's a music player at the bottom of the page. You can hide it or pop it out. Click the playlist button and you can click which track you want to play.
b) Every month we'll post a mix, you can find it on the
Monthly Mix Page. To get the songs, just click the iTunes button in each post and it will take you right to it. On occasion, there are tracks that iTunes doesn't have (shocker!). In that case there will be a
Download This Track link. Right click that link, pick
Save As, save it, go to iTunes and then click
File->Add to Library and pick where you saved it. Might be simple to some, but I had to explain this to my sister so just in case....
c) We'll also try to post a song a week or whenever we feel like it, they aren't part of the monthly mix. But you can browse all tracks including these by going to the
Latest News section, or you use the search box to find something specific.
d) You can share songs with Facebook or Twitter and we post a list the most shared songs on the homepage in the
Pulseworthy Charts.
I'm still confused, what should I do now?
Contact us at
info@pulseworthy.com or using the
Contact Form. Don't fret, we won't judge. Actually, we love questions. Trust me, if you don't get it, you're not alone. It just means we haven't made it simple enough.
Ok, I get it, this is awesome, how can I support the Pulse?
1. Click the iTunes links on our site to go straight to the tracks and we get a humble 5% commission on what you purchase.
2. Follow us on Facebook or Twitter and share what you like with your world. Tell your friends, family and anyone else about our site. The more people the better.
3. Support the artists. If you like their music, show your love. Don't just buy the track, check them out on tour (buy a t-shirt while you're there), and tell your friends. U2 makes over $100 million per year and the vast majority of that is from touring, not album sales.
Holy crap, social networking scares me, do I have to?
Of course not! You can pick your spot in the world of technology and become a squatter at any point. You won't be the first, or the last.
What happens if I "Like" the Pulse?
If you click the Like button in the "Pulseworthy on Facebook" box you will see our posts in your news feed on Facebook. I know, pretty awesome. It's just like becoming our friend, sorta.
What does the Facebook Like button in the posts do?
If you click the Like button next to the post of any track, you'll tell your friends that you like that song. It will give you an option to add a comment. But the cooler thing to do is Share it...
What does the Facebook Share button do?
If you click the Facebook Share button, your friends will see the post in their news feed as the artist, title, and description. But the coolest part is that they will be able to play the song right off of their news feed or your wall! We're also amazed. You gotta try it.
What does the Tweet button do?
It pops up a screen that allows you to send out a link to the track on Twitter. The more sharing the better!
How do I sign up and sign in?
Here at the Pulse we're working on Facebook and Twitter integration so that you can just click one button and sign in without having to keep track of another username and password. Don't worry, we can't see your Facebook or Twitter password, and we only pull your name, email and picture over to the site. You can always block that in your preferences. But until that's all set, you still have to sign up as a user.
Why should I sign up and sign in?
Having a login for the Pulse allows you to create custom playlists and comment on tracks. There will be even more cool stuff you can do coming soon! (like share playlists with friends)
What's the email subscription?
If you create a login or sign up for the email subscription, we'll shoot you a note whenever we post a new monthly mix. That's basically it. If we ever find something more interesting to do with email we'll let you know. But we promise no spam and you can always opt out.
Monthly Mix
This page is where you'll find our latest mix posted. The music player at the bottom of the screen is filled up with the tracks for the month. There are navigation buttons on top of the posts and on the right sidebar to let you go to the next, previous, or specific post. Each post has buttons to allow sharing via Twitter & Facebook (you should try the Facebook Share, it's cool), a button to add the track to your own playlist, a link to buy it on iTunes or download it, a description on the song, a photo and a YouTube video.
Mix Archives
This is where all of our monthly mixes go to hang out after they've been the life of the party for 30 days or so. Great way to go check out what's previously been Pulseworthy.
Latest News
This is where you can go to check out all the tracks we've posted about on the site, not just the Monthly Mixes. For example, we'll post up a song of the week and other stuff we just gotta get out.
My Playlist
This page will show any tracks that you've added to your playlist. On each post there is a link that says Add to my playlist. When you do that, we'll keep track of them and you can go back and listen to your own playlist. Of course, unless you're logged in to the site
Tag Sphere
This is the one website element that uses Flash. So if you're on an iPad, you're out of luck. Otherwise, this is a cool way to find some tunes. For every track post, we tag the post with words that describe it. All the tags show up here in this sphere. You can use your mouse to make it move and select whichever tag speaks to you. We'll pull up all the songs with that tag for your listening pleasure.
